Kitchen 55 is a family owned & operated business that was started during the 2021 lockdown in our home kitchen in Templestowe. Kitchen 55 blossomed when the founder/chef/Mom, Ramesh, who’s dedicated her life to saving the planet, working for environmental agencies across the world, holding two master’s degrees in environmental management; finally had some spare time (due to working from home) to dedicate to cooking & mastering her recipes. She then built her own website, Kitchen55melbourne.com.au, with the aim to cook fresh homemade food from high quality ingredients, according to each order, & it was the beginning of a new adventure.
The quality of the food spoke for itself, the business grew from word of mouth to the point where the home kitchen was insufficient for the demand. And the rest is history. As a family, we all had to jump in to get kitchen 55 to a whole new level. We took over the old fish & chips shop on Newmans Road, Templestowe in October 2022, and with the hope of a quick renovation and opening by the end of the year we began the designing process. However, it became apparent that we did not know what we were up against as the old fish & chips shop was far from a quick renovation, we had to rebuild the whole shop. The plans changed to a full renovation, the shop was stripped to its bones, new ceiling, new walls, new floor, new electrical & plumbing job, new equipment, everything had to go, but one thing, the old scale.
So, after months of relentless work, we finished the first renovating phase, the dining area and the kitchen. Kitchen 55’s door was finally opened in July 2023.
And today, after 14 months of having our doors open to the public, we are extremely happy and pleased for getting to know all of you, & making new friends along the way, what a beautiful community!
