Every Saturday, exclusively at kitchen 55!
Gilan, one of the northern provinces of Iran, is well-known for its warm hospitality & its delicious cuisine (UNESCO accredited). To find the Authentic taste however, one needs to travel (let’s say from Tehran the big bad capital) past the smoky Alborz mountains, up & down the zig zag roads, through the greenery of the rice & tea fields, to reach Rasht (Capital of the Gilan Province), & it is only then that the real challenge begins, you need to know which one or two restaurants to go to in order to experience the authentic Gilani cuisine. As we believe that the true Gilani dishes are being made & served inside people’s houses, the old recipes going from generation to generation. The same way we are now serving these dishes. Originally born and raised in Tehran for a couple of generations, we shouldn’t have any business tackling Gilani cuisine, however, with our roots deep in Rasht (great-grandparents) we all grew up with Baghali Ghatogh, Vavishka, Zeytoon parvardeh, Morghe torsh etc… And after years of trial and error, working on these generational recipes, we can confidently say that we are offering something extraordinary, Gilan’s cuisine, for the first time, in Melbourne, Australia!

Kitchen 55 is a family owned and operated business that was started during the 2021 lockdown in our home kitchen in Templestowe. Kitchen 55 blossomed when the founder/chef/Mom, Ramesh, who’s dedicated her life to saving the planet, working for environmental agencies across the world, holding two master’s degrees in environmental management; finally had some spare time (due to working from home) to dedicate to cooking and mastering her recipes. She then built her own website, Kitchen55melbourne.com.au and it was the beginning of a new adventure…
